This project included the construction of two truck weigh stations and inspection facilities adjacent to Exit 6 on Route 78. Each of these facilities will be located on a 30+/- acre site on the eastbound and westbound roadways. In addition to the stations, the project included the reconstruction of three bridges along with re-profiling and widening approximately 1-3/4 miles of Route 78. Major construction items performed included 1.2 million cy of roadway excavation – including 1 million cy of cut-to-waste and 140,000 cy of rock excavation, placement of 46,000 cy of concrete in pavement and bridge structures; placement of 1-3/4 miles of superpave material along east and westbound lanes, installation of sheeting, cofferdams and steel H piles, installation of 90 +/- acres of roadway drainage, completion of site and roadway lighting, installation of 15 sign structures, and placement of 30+/- acres of landscaping. The weigh and inspection system are comprised of both local and remote Weigh in Motion Systems (WIMs) that report back to a local control facility. This was accomplished though a series of lights, signs and roadway sensors. The site has a CCTV system installed allowing for remote operation and visual confirmation of vehicle presence at the remote and local sites. The facility is equipped with a complete communication network with fiber optic and copper back bone, a video surveillance system and two-way communication system. |
