Paterson Rail Station – Viaduct Restoration and Accessibility Upgrades

The work included cleaning and restoration of the existing 650 LF double viaduct, utilizing materials and methods approved by New Jersey State Historic Preservations Office. New Jersey Transit received project funding via a grant from the Federal Transit Administration to bring the rail station back to life.
Furnished and installed standing metal seamed on the clock tower including all roof accessories and flashing Restoration of the 650 LF double viaduct and accessibility upgrade included removal of the existing low-level island platform, demolition of the station building, construction of a new high-level island platform, removal of the existing canopy structure and its reinstallation onto new high level platform, new stairs to the high level platform, and the installation of an ADA compliant elevator, from street level to the new high level platform.
Removal and replacing existing ballast and spalled concrete and waterproofing below the existing 560 lf double-tracked viaduct were performed, while keeping the station in service. Interim stage of this project involved construction of a temporary low-level platform, all electrical work associated with the platform and elevator, and site lighting.
Project site work included curbing, sidewalk, paving, landscaping, fencing, storm drainage, temporary construction and all associated painting and signage. Work also included restoring the entire concrete viaduct structure by pneumatically applying a specialty design concrete mix and landscaping the surrounding areas. The final stage of the project involved installation of new 380 lf pre-cast high level, building a 52-foot high clock tower with an elevator.
Project was awarded the concrete in transit award from the Portland cement association. |
