Mount Laurel, New Jersey - Bridge deck removal
- High performance concrete bridge deck construction
- Diaphragm and elastomeric bearing replacement
- Latex modified concrete bridge deck overlay
- Median barrier replacement
- Pressure grouting of approach slabs
- Traffic control and staging
The Rancocas Creek Bridge is located between Exits No. 4 and No. 5 on the New Jersey Turnpike. The structure’s 11 spans extend over the Rancocas Creek approximately 710 ft. This project included the removal and replacement of concrete deck slabs in three stages with a high performance concrete. Re-surfacing included the placement of a latex modified concrete overlay in the shoulders and the milling and paving of bridge approaches. Steel girders were lifted through the use of jacks so that all of the old steel rocker bearings could be removed and replaced with earthquake resistant elastomeric bearings. More than 200 deteriorated steel diaphragms were replaced and encased in concrete. Barges were used to construct a temporary walkway spanning along bridge piers providing access to bridge piers beneath the bridge deck. |
